What does it mean to be Nearsighted?

 

Near Sighted means that you have difficulty seeing far distances.

For example you may find yourself squinting or straining while driving. This is a condition that typically worsens over time, so if you have previously been diagnosed and are still experiencing discomfort, you may need to have another eye examination to determine if you need an updated prescription.

 

What does it mean to be Farsighted?

 

Farsighted means that you have difficulty seeing close distances.

For example if you may find yourself having difficulty reading a book or looking at your computer. What is "Astigmatism"?

Astigmatism is the most common vision problem. 

Most eyes are a spherical shape. When you have "Astigmatism" your eye is shaped more oval like. 

Problems usual result in a  slight blurring of the vision or headaches or eyestrain. The solution is to undergo an eye examination and attain a new prescription.

 

What Are "Cataracts"?

As we age, the lenses of our eyes begin to cloud over. These clouds are referred to as "Cataracts". 

Located behind the iris and the pupil, the lens is extremely vital to our ability to see. The clouding of this lens occurs when the protein of the lens begins to clump together to form small clouds throughout the lens. This causes clouds or cataracts  which cause vision to be blurred and impaired to varying degrees.

What is "Glaucoma"?

Glaucoma is a group of eye diseases which result in damage to the optic nerve and vision loss.

Oftenly it is characterized by a pressure that builds in the eye does not always cause any signs or symptoms and can progress without notice until the optic nerve is damaged, often irreparably.

Glaucoma is, a complex condition and its diagnosis depends on a number of factors, and pressure is just one of these. That’s why a thorough eye exam—including dilation of the pupil and examination of the back of the eye—is recommended at regular intervals to detect glaucoma as early as possible before vision loss occurs.

What is "Diabetic Retinopathy"?

Diabetic Retinopathy is an eye condition where elevated blood sugar levels cause blood vessels in the eye to swell and leak into the retina. Without treatment, it can result in uncorrectable vision loss or even blindness. 

Long term Symptoms are hard to diagnose but immediate Symptoms include :

  • Dark spots in your visual field
  • Blurred, Distored or Double Vision
  • Large "floaters" specks in the form of dots,circles,lines, or cobwebs that move across your field of vision

What is "Macular Degeneration"?

Macular Degeneration is when the macula which is a part of the retina, begins to deteriorate. A healthy macula is necessary for centralized vision and focus necessary to effectively read or drive. The degeneration can cause you to lose central vision. 

This is a relatively common problem for people as they age.

Although macular degeneration cannot currently be cured, treatment options do exist. Treatments are aimed at slowing the progression of the disease and improving vision when possible.
